I 'm not sure why you don't want to use ftp. The IPX HOWTO tells you how
to setup ipx on you linux box. You can then use ncpmount to mount the
netware filesystem. (I think ncpmount come as part of the mars-nwe package
on Redhat). You can then use say rsync -vrt which doesn't need rsync
running on the server or just use cp.
I have used this method often to copy info to and from netware servers.
