Having used the GIMP for about 5 days I must say that I am truly impressed
with it.
I spent a bit of time altering some existing pictures, and read the tool
tips.
The GUI is not really a problem, however I have had lots of experience with
CAD packages for Printed Circuit Board design, so I didn't find the UI a
particular surprise.
RE: Can't draw circles? Actually I tend to use Xfig for "simple business
graphics" where I need to move/resize simple vector shapes and text around.
The GIMP would not be my choice for that type of drawing.
I am using the GIMP at home for artwork, touch ups and Web page design.
One thing that other CAD packages have is "strokes" - also called "graffiti"
- whereby you can execute some command by using the middle mouse to draw a
symbol which is interpreted as a command. I suspect that that UI is patented
by someone (Mentor Graphics and / or Palm?). Or is it open?
Cheers,
Jill.
