Just looked at the above. That site had a link to the kernel
fundammentals (ie no drivers etc) as RedHat published in
their Annual Report:

I am not a unix programmer and most of what is written is a
little too low level C for my understanding but I did notice
one important thing; there are lots of small functions.
Sometimes 2 or 3 functions fit on one screen, only rarely
does a function span more than a screen and then mostly its
a long case statement or declarations.
I can see why others were able to contribute - it was
understandable.
