Quite possibly you could force the use of Linux into your studies, which is
always nice when it happens. Then do some consulting on the side.

Dave Kempe asked for a 'category' for people who made this decision... As a
fellow Uni-leaver, I reckon the category should be classified as "twit". I
hear cries of, "Oh, but I wanted to be a programmer!" all the time from
friends who have become sysadmins, and it's a hard way out into the
programming world without learning the stuff you do at Uni.

That's not to say you can't get into some decent hacking as a sysadmin... :)
Besides, if you're really stubborn, craving to learn, and have some time,
nothing's going to get that much in your way.
