Ted is an RTF viewer and editor. However which rtf? The format changes regularly. Ted often throws up lots of warning messages. StarOffice is quite nice, but in a completely different league for memory requirements. If you only want to see the text (which is often all you need) I notice I have rtf2text, which seems to want a perl module RTF::TEXT.
