I found that after the installation, setup, playing around and generally
getting the hang of it all, that introductory Unix books were very
helpful in getting a 'bigger picture' of how it all works. The more
recent the editions, the more they also cover Linux stuff. Try Unix for
Dummies or the Unix Companion. I found older versions in the library
(Mosman in particular) which is handy if you're short of bucks. There's
a new one out called Think Unix by Jon Lasser. It has received good
reviews, but I haven't read it yet.
