download the pppoe package and put it somewhere handy.

install root, kernel, drivers *and base* as normal (you probably want
to use the loadlin install method and download some files onto your
dos partition first - see "6.3.1 booting from a dos partition" near
above url). set up the network stuff (hostname, domain, ip, etc) just
as you want it for you local network (or make stuff up).

reboot when it tells you to. you now have a running (minimal) install
that you can actually do some stuff in.

when you get to the point where you need a net connection to suck down
the bulk of the packages, switch to console 2 and install the pppoe
package you stashed somewhere earlier (dpkg -i pppoe_*.deb). it
requires ppp, but that should be part of base.tgz and already
installed.

get adsl connection going. its extremely simple - just follow the docs
in /usr/doc/pppoe/ and/or the various posts on the slug list from
myself and jason rennie (and probably some other people) over the last
few months.

flick back to console 1, and continue to install over network.

see your doctor if pain persists.
