All of this material is documented in the HTTP specification. The current
version (1.1) is documented in RFC2616. Many common internet protocols are
also docuement through the RFCs.
A complete [and searchable] archive of the RFCs are availible at
http://www.rfc-editor.org/
For those with a bit of spare time, I suggest reading at RFCs 748, 1097,
1149, 2550 and 2795.
