i put progeny rc1 on a toshiba laptop the other day.  *really* nice installer.
it did do a couple of odd things, though.

i needed to boot from a floppy (anyone manage to boot from cd?) and at the
end of the base install it asked me to remove the floppy on one screen,
remove the cd on the next, and first thing after it came back up was to ask
for the cd again.  i'm assuming that it does this so you don't boot from the
cd again after the base install, but if you're booting from floppy the chances
are this isn't necessary (why would you boot from floppy if booting from cdrom
works?).  the other small thing was it asked twice, at different stages in the
install, to create cvs repositories.

that aside, everything seems to have worked great, though i haven't looked
at it for more than a couple of minutes (work... gah) since.  pcmcia cards
made their happy chirps and X was configured.  those are the only things
that spring to mind as having been problem points post-install with other
dists.
