I've installed on a few different types of compaqs and never
had any troubles. From memory the NIC is sometimes a pcnet32,
sometimes an eepro not sure if that was server or desktop class
compaq though.

The only other thing to mention is the diag partition (the "bios"
you get in to by pressing F10 when the cursor flashes in the top
right or left (can't remember which) side of the screen on boot up.

If you want that to work properly, don't delete the diag partition,
and don't install lilo in the MBR.

You can also get in to the "bios" via lilo, just add an entry in lilo.conf
like you would if you were adding a dos partition.

One of my favorite boxes is a compaq p75, its a work horse, slow and
steady, does lots of work, gets big uptimes (got to over 400 days before
mysteriously crashing)

And to answer your question, no :)
