It's kinda like Linux, only suits choose it first, and it's proprietary. It
runs Apache though, so if you happen to have a few Solaris boxes lying
around, you can still use them as web servers. [1]

You can install Sun's GNOME 1.4 preview, or Ximian GNOME (or build it from
source if you really have to). Sun won't be replacing CDE with GNOME until
one of the 9.x point releases.
