Are you talking about the version of the ALSA plugin for XMMS, or
the actual version of ALSA-drivers/lib/utils?  If it's the
latter, I don't think 0.5.x is supported any more.  Only the 0.9
series works with the later 2.4 kernels.

Oh, also, I have the ALSA drivers installed, but I use OSS output
for XMMS.  Since ALSA's API is a moving target right now, and I
like my programs to work, I currently use OSS emulation for
anything.
