Unfortunate. :( FreeS/WAN should be doing everything it can to get the MTU
right, if you want to force it, use overridemtu in ipsec.conf. Mine have
always 'just worked'.
The Telstra thing is a very real problem though; I had to write reconnection
scripts to make sure the VPN client machine was on the same network as its
peer, as the packet loss made the VPN useless otherwise.
