Dear Luke,
Linux Magazine from UK reviewed CD burners in their July 2001 issue, espec
the burn-proof feature.

They covered the Lite-On LTR-12101B, Plextor PX-W1210A, PX-W1210S,
PX-W1610A, Ricoh MP-9120A-DP and Teac W512E.  All the burners worked fine on
Linux, and the burn-proof feature worked too.  However they continually said
this burn-proof was not necessary under linux anyway.

No mention of some burners that are very common here, espec no mention of
Sony.  I have just bought a Sony CRX-1611 so we will soon see.
