I Purchased an External ard Drive case with both USB 1.1 and Firewire connectors. Have the USB working under Mandrake 8.1 by following instructions in Mandrake User Org docs (www.mandrakeuser.org). It works 100% and Firewire is great for video editing under Windoze (sorry to admit that but I still consider myself a Linux newbie). Bits probably have USB 2.0 based external devices by now.
