Except you don't get access to the hardware.  Sony have written a
hardware abstraction layer which means when, say, you go to /dev/dvd
you're actually talking to a layer of software which talks to the
hardware.

Don't expect to be able to rip DVDs or change your region, let alone
do the cool hacks that made the C64 an exciting platform.

Course, I imagine the abstraction layer will last a matter of weeks
once the geeks start poking around ;)
