Take at look at ifhp on the LPRNG website. You can then use options with lpr I think it's -Z inlower,duplex etc... and it all just works. Also you get to see the username and job name on the printer screen at the same time :-)
I have used this with a 5SiMX, 8000DN, 4Si and it all works exactly the same way.
