After two weeks of headaches I got the shites with it and did a fresh
install doing PPPoE configuration before doing the required Kernel recompile
for the hostAP stuff which the box also needs to do.

Worked stragith away.
Did the kernel recompile, and it broke again.

Turned on a few more options in the kernel (none of it seemed to really make
sense, but I did anyway), put it thru another recompile and it all still
works.

Not really sure why, but I'm willing to just accept and move on!
