^ the real problem
make[1]: *** [ncurses] Error 1Unable to find the Ncurses libraries.
You must have Ncurses installed in order
to use 'make menuconfig'
^ bogus error message because the kernel build system is not smart enough to realise you don't have a compiler, which I'm quite amazed at!
Looks like you need to install gcc, and probably a few other build chain packages.
