I thought that 'disk label' is written on the partition disk as part of the 'Boot Block'. Disk label, of course, is optional.
As you may know 'disk partition' has three (3) parts, namely:
1. Boot Block 2. Inode-List or 'Data Structure' Block 3. Data storage Block.
