Tried Slackware 10 running 2.4 kernel, on a desktop.
Found the device
fdisk particioned it fine
formatted ext3 fine.
Plug back into Ubuntu on the laptop and:

Hmm this is getting interesting!
The laptop is realley what I want this for. Working on the desktop is loely (it proves it works) but not what i was looking for.
Ideas appreciated.
