I've heard this comment a lot, and it baffles me. Hell, I'm not trying to stick up for Microsoft or anything, but this is perfectly normal and they've done this as long as I can remember for pretty much all their products. XP was Whistler, for example, 95 was Chicago, even Windows 3.11 had a codename (Snowball?) - Longhorn was purely a development codename.
