Its a bridge I think for all purposes. It probably can do some routing, but for your purposes, its a bridge. Therefore, ensure it has good reception if you are moving it around. Very directional those modems.
Martin Visser makes good suggestions, tho I would recommend tethereal over tcpdump these days. I find it easier to read I spose.
