You can convert existing video to dv format to fool around with in Kino. ffmpeg -tvstd PAL -i /tmp/my_first_film.avi -target dv /tmp/my_first_film.dv I'm not sure the tvstd option is needed, and there are lots more options you most likely will want to play around with.
