I would have to agree with Stephen, when I installed fedora core 6, it would not install unless I just did the default packages, any changes and it would crash. The crash would occur when copying the rpm packages from the disc, I thought at first it was a dodgy disc, but after using 3 different discs, and also 2 64 bit disc all with the same issue, I decided it was not me at fault, I also had a Centos disc I got from a magazine and got the same problem, anything other than the default install and it crapped out.

Different disc's, different machines, 32bit and 64 bit, I think the installer has problems.

Im not whinging (dont use fedora anymore, just Debian and Ubuntu so it does not effect me), just agreeing that it is anaconda that has problems.

Just whinging doesn't help anyone, or get you any help. It would help if you were more specific about where the install was crashing.

I have done many FC installations (probably over 100), mostly over networks, including rolling my own kickstarts for all sorts of servers including virtual servers and I have had very few screw ups, mostly when I was trying towipe of M$ systems - sometimes the disk formatting is problematic.

So now I am using Fedora It was a bitch of an install as the Anaconda installer kept on crashing all the time. In the end I had to format my partitions using the Mandriva installer and then switch over to the Fedora installer once formatting was complete, but now that that it is completed I will crack open the champagne. Then I think that It would have been even better if I could have used the Mandriva installer to install Fedora Then I thought why couldn't we have 1 or 2 universal installers which are available on a separate CD/DVD which is pre loaded into the computer and does all the formatting and boot sector configuring, Then after the Universal installer is installed I Load my O/S of choice and the Universal installer will interface with the O/S DVD because on the O/S DVD there is a configuration file which tells the Universal Installer what to do. I am putting this Idea out there in the hope that it is a good and novel idea but I would bet $,1000,000 on that somebody has thought of it before.
