I have had Feisty running inside VMware Workstation 5.5 on Win XP for about 3 months now. (I think I did 2 installs). Just selected an "Other 2.6.x Kernel". It even nicely runs in SMP using my Intel Core Duo. I haven't seen the issue you refer to.
