I have recently upgraded from a windoze/Redhat world to a
windoze/Ubuntu. So far things have been OK.
There is one issue that I have, and that is my VGA output on my Dell
Inspiron 5100 won't work. I had to add stuff into my /etc/X11/xorg.conf
file to get different resolutions working.
You can use MergedFB with ubuntu 7.04, we are working on a randr-1.2 ATI
driver at the moment and it mostly works, however ubuntu feisty doesn't
ship a randr-1.2 enabled server. (I think F7 has one and gutsy probably
does now.)
For MergedFB you just add
Option "CRT2Position" "RightOf"
Option "MetaModes" "1400x1050-1024x768"
which should in theory give you a mode if the VGA is plugged in, dynamic
moving stuff around really needs randr-1.2
Dave.
