david,
i went ahead and took the plunge with a new PC from pioneer with
ubuntu;
pretty excited about it all...
as i write elsewhere in this post, i have been using a non-windows
environement now, exclusively, for some months, but with very
restricted range of things i could do;
to be honest, workign with ubuntu 5.4, and very limited ram, i wasn't
even able to work out how to get totem video to work,
and was unsuccessful at installing a SINGLE program..
however, undaunted, and more enthusiastic (philosophically and every
other way) about linux in general and ubuntu in particular, i have
perservered and now i'm days away of taking possession of the new
baby...

by reading some of the posts here, i can tell i'm in for a steep
learning curve;
do you have any stuff you can share that might bear on my situation?
specifically, i'm looking to invest a couple of hundred dollars in
linux/ubuntu books...
where do i start?
is amazon the cheapest way to go?
if not, could you redirect me?

regs,
rufus
