Is it possible to have a "null" cipher for ssh/scp? On occasion I'm on my LAN, behind a firewall/router etc, and need to copy a few hundred megs or gigs between boxes.
In this environment, I simply want maximum xfer rate, and minimum CPU use. I simply want to copy the files across, and have no desire to hide them, and have no one that I'm aware of on my LAN who would sniff them anyway. So I imagine there should be a "-c null" option to scp. But there does not seem to be. So the next question, which cipher has the lowest CPU overhead? DES?
