Seems that the updated perl-5.8.8-12 comes with perl modules that were previously held in separate packages, such as perl-Math-BigInt, perl-Math-BigRat, perl-bignum and perl-Sys-Syslog. Since the contents of those packages are in perl-5.8.8-12 now, you could probably uninstall them as you suggested. Not sure what the manpage conflict from perl-File-Temp is all about though.
