Maybe you are referring to something revolving around Suse 9 bricking them?
I've now successfully burned the ISO (created with brasero) on an old Mac.
I looked at a firmware upgrade but sadly it's Windows only. In any case, I've got the same problem
on my firewire-connected Sony burner. I can't help but think it's some sort of Linux related issue.
