What distro is this running on? If you plug it into a PC running a different 
distro where it works, what kernel module does it use?

further suggestion

assuming you have tried plugging it in and it didn't all then "just work" TM

tail /var/log/syslog -f
then insert it (assuming it has syslog not messages)
that should tell you what is or is not going on
