James. I don't know whether this is helpful. When i was looking at linux on macbookair, i found an ubuntu forum page from an apple tech advising against installing. He was repairing a batch of units that got fried in 6 weeks because a company was persuaded that it was a good thing. The intel chip has a slight custom modification (thanks apple) which to get other things to run sweet would be a challenge. Has a problem with overvolts to processor not regulated real well. And cooks in about six weeks. Again i don't know if this has any bearing on your problem. I am very new to all this. Good luck.
