        In appreciation of early early Linux/Unix heritage, this question has
not only been asked one zillion times but debated thrice as much.  
Desktop and Window managers have their place in "user preference" not in
"superiority". When things didnt go our way for some reason or other
most of us have turned to xwinman.org for help. I personally stuck to
enlightenment for simplicity and speed....(all respects to G3)
You could always compile your preferred WM or DM from source to suit
your favorite Distro too , which is great Sunday fun.
