"The Apocryphal Gospel of Peter".

This public lecture will be presented to the Melbourne Sea of Faith Network by
John Noack (from the Carl Jung Society) at 7.30pm Thursday 17th November 2011
at the Carlton Library (see below).  All are welcome.   Gold coin donation
appreciated.

John Noack comments:
"This talk will deal with the apocryphal "Gospel of Peter". It was found in a
monk's tomb in Egypt in the 1880s by French archaeologists and it is the only
Passion narrative which actually describes a cosmic “resurrection” of Yeshua
Messiah, better known as
Jesus Christ. He is accompanied by two celestial figures, who may
represent the Son of Yahweh/God and the Son of Adam/Man, or perhaps
Moses and Elijah who were also exalted. This Gospel, parts of which may
pre-date all of the four canonical  Gospels, also confirms Peter's foundational
role within Christianity in being the first in  experiencing and formulating
the early resurrection stories, probably based on his Galilean hill-top solar
epiphanies at Yahwistic convocations, which were later kept partly concealed.
However, the Transfiguration Story, with its description of Yeshua's face
shining
like the sun, describes one of these Petrine epiphanies very
forthrightly.
This is basically the "Marcan Yahwistic Secret", which has been kept quiet by
the churches."

SEA OF FAITH IN AUSTRALIA  (SoFiA)
The SoFiA Network promotes the open exploration of religion, spirituality and
meaning.
'Sea of Faith' is not a church, but a network of people who are seeking a
radical reappraisal of past religious traditions in order to meet today's
spiritual challenges.  The Network affirms the continuing importance of
religious thought and practice even though it acknowledges that religion, like
art and poetry, is a purely human creation.
