Hi All,
You probably know that Singapore will vote at ISO regarding MS-OOXML either
being accepted as ISO standard or being rejected and hence leaving ODF or
ISO26300 as the doc standard.
I have been tracking ODF vs OOXML for a long time and I have been through
grokdoc.net, blogs of Rob Weir, Bob Sutor [IBM ers] , Jason Matusow,
Joanathan [Microsoft staff] as well as Jonathan Schwartz [Sun], and Miguel
de Icaza [Novell guy, Gnome coder, mostly pro-MS, I suspect] as well as
general media.
Last friday, I attended the ITSC/IDA XML workgroup Technical Committee meeting
which will recommend the vote { Yes or No} to the ITSC council. I will
publish the report openly soon.
I have a quick presentation here:
http://www.asianlinux.org/downloads/docs/advocacy/ODF-vs-OOXML-v1.1.odp
that I used to prove that MS_OOXML is defective and should be rejected. So
far, I think we [pro-ODF team] did quite well.
I am supposed to submit my final list of objections towards MS-OOXML by
Friday.
I would appreciate any more info or interesting fact that I have missed out
(eg: I just noticed that OOXML has problems with formulae) or notes that
provides us stronger ammo to defeat the MS team.
Even if it is a repetition of what I know, I don't mind. You can email me
offlist. Just reply to this email, so that the email will get classified
correctly.
Regards
Anand
