Time will tell. No harm in contributing since all docs are GNU FDL. I think, Ubuntu wiki, howtoforge, debian wiki, debian desktop guides, LDP, man pages etc definitely don't fit your description of "another collection point of badly written docs!" The docs may not come in nice hardbound books weighing 20 kilos, with high-sounding TLAs but rather easy to find with search engines and get the work done.
