To populate a NAS (QNAP TS-409), I am looking to purchase 4 matched
Harddisks, but from
different batches (diff. manufacturers even preferred) to avoid batch
errors affecting two drives at once
(see http://www2.cs.uh.edu/~paris/MYPAPERS/StorageSS06.pdf)

I am looking at either 4x 5000GB or 5x 750GB capacity at this time.

I can find several models from Seagate, Maxtor (also seems to be Seagate
now), WD, Hitachi, and Samsung

Most seem to have 16MB buffer cache, but i have not found a Seagate that
has 16MB (most have 32MB).

Due to the NAS's requirements, I would like to keep things as much
similar as possible.

Would anyone here have either recommendations for disks that would make
up a good matching pare and/or
also good sources where to purchase these?
