Yes, there have been betas for some months and at present there is RC3 (few days old).
Unfortunately there have still been some rough edges when looking at a large deployment on OS X - it has not had the testing of other platforms - we have had it dumping core when opening documents from the desktop, etc (the file open interprocess communication on mac is obviously quite different).
Seems to be getter better now ... although IMHO Base still sucks (to be honest - although a lot of credit due as it has come some way). It has improved but not to the level where it could be used as a replacement for FileMaker (which you find in a lot of Mac based installations).
