I've been using an 8GB SanDisk with Fedora on it (liveusb-creator was so good to use; the whole USB-fying mechanism is unlike even Ubuntu's offering), but for just a year. Apart from JFFS2, I have the partitions mounted with the sync and noatime options.
I recover data with TestDisk and the freezing has only worked on 3/10 disks.
