Dear friends, Apologies if you are getting this mail multiple times because you are subscribed to all 3 mailing lists.
I have a friend who needs some assistance to counter some DDoS attacks. Is anyone able to suggest some solutions for this? They are currently on shared hosting. Will moving to VPS hosting be sufficient, or is a dedicated server required? And are there any personal recommendations? Cheers, Luther ********************************************************************** Dear all, I am writing on behalf of The Online Citizen http://theonlinecitizen.com/. We would appreciate if anyone could offer us some help in terms of countering, fixing, or redirecting DDoS attacks on our website. TOC is the largest socio-political blog in Singapore in terms of readership. We've came under a DDoS attack at midnight, 9 Jan 2009. These attacks doubled in strength after we posted that we fixed the problem, on facebook. The problem has now been rectified since we've upgraded to a VPS but we predict that there will be more attacks in future, closer to the elections. In our exchange, someone mentioned that there was no way to 'stop' a DDoS attack per se, it's a matter of which side is more patient. It seems, however, that whoever is attacking us has more resources than we do, and probably could flood us for weeks., Although one option is to duplicate our content on other sites, including facebook, that only fixes the problem of accessing the socio-political content. We're trying to monetise the site now, and problems like these would drive away advertisers. Hope to hear from you soon, Shihan _______________________________________________ LUGS Mailing list - [email protected] List FAQ: http://wiki.lugs.org.sg/LugsMailingListFaq Info page: http://www.lugs.org.sg/mailman/listinfo/slugnet To unsubscribe send an empty email to: [email protected]
