If you plan to 'muck around' with udev, be aware that there have been quite a bit of architecture changes to udev (including the intro of libudev and deprecation of HAL) that may or may not be in your distribution. (AFAIK, Ubuntu 10.04 and Fedora 13 will deprecate HAL). That web page on writing udev rules is also a bit old and some info it provides may not be valid. The best source of info on udev is the linux hotplug mailing list. You can read it via gmane [http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.linux.hotplug.devel].
