I cannot comment on the comparison between 16.05.0 and 16.05.7 but we noticed a
similar change in behavior between 14.03 and 16.05.X (X > 0) which we
attributed to the following patch:

If using -u/unbuffered set the stdout of the task to be
line buffered.
