Actually, any time you change your subnet (go from no subnet to a subnet, go from one subnet to another, etc) you must restart simpleMonitor. I find it annoying, too. I recently redid my IP addressign scheme for two reasons: reduce the number of IP addresses to keep track of while doing bandwidth management, and to get around this annoyance.
