In ad-hoc mode, there is no link status to tell you what is the RSSI & LQ. But you can do throughput testing after establishing the link to see how good the performance is. To really see RSSI &LQ, it is best to setup infrastructure mode and you need one AP to do that.

Subject: [smartBridges] Site survey with ABO in ad-hoc mode possible?

Hi,

I need to setup a point-to-point link about 4-5 miles apart. There's clear LOS. Since for now I don't have enough Airpoint Pro Outdoors, I'd like to do the testng/survey with 2 Airbridge outdoor that I do have available, and set them up in ad-hoc mode for the testing.

So I'll have 1 ABO on each side of the p-t-p link, in ad-hoc mode. They won't be connected to the Internet, or LAN or anything, I just need to check that I get good RSSI and LQ.

Is this doable? Is the survey going to be reliable, that is, can I trust the results using this setup, instead of APPO's?

Thanks.

Carlos S.
