Message from the CEO

Wow, here is an exciting way to start the newsletter. We were about to send out the first edition of this newsletter and received the information that WISP Organization Part-15.org has presented us the Wireless Manufacturer of the Year award.

This coveted award is in recognition for demonstrating exceptional creativity and ingenuity in the development of leading-edge products that have significant impact on the global WISP industry. Winners are nominated by the Wireless ISP operators and selected by a distinguished panel of high technology, and advanced Wireless Internet professionals from across the globe.

We feel priviledged and happy. We thank you for the support and the trust you are placing with us. We pledge to repay this honor with our unwavering commitment to support this exciting industry.

The customer response to our last round of product enhancements has been overwhelming. These enhanced products have established clear value proposition and the product demand has surged. This sudden growth in product demand has created challenges for our supply chain. We ask for your patience as our factory scrambles to catch up and work through the logistics issues.

Just to provide perspective on the situation, in just a few weeks after the introduction of new product features in March,  our shipments in May were about 4 times higher than April. For the months of June and July, we are gearing up to double shipments again month over month. This is a happy problem to solve and please be assured that we are working the issue with the highest priority.

With an expanded community comes a higher responsibility to effectively share information and to keep in touch with our business partners. Towards that end we have established a free email forum for all smartBridges users. This is a dynamic forum with global community of users sharing ideas and helping each other solve problems. It is very satisfying to see users help each other round the clock. This forum also provides us the invaluable inputs to drive our product development process.

Now we are embarking on this newsletter project. We hope to develop this communication channel to dissiminate timely information for all our customers, suppliers and business partners. This is your newsletter and we will appreciate your contributions to make this a rich source of information about smartBridges.

With warm regards,

Nimesh Parikh
CEO

“Ethernet Burnout – What is it and why does it happen”

Following recent comments in the smartBridges User group, we have conducted in depth studies to understand better, the issue commonly referred as “Ethernet Burnout”. We have learned that all the reported problems are with the Outdoor devices only. The problem is not caused by a hardware fault, as some might commonly assume.

Surprisingly, the issue finds its roots in the lack of proper installation. Please ensure that when installing the outdoor units, the power supply (sufficient and stable voltage) is clean. Noisy power supplies can contribute towards many strange issues that are hard to track down. Use high quality Ethernet cables, prevent water leakage, apply proper grounding and surge protection are a few of the tips.

To ensure that equipment is operating in a stable manner or operates at the peak performance, the outdoor installation is important. In a wireless network, the radio may have to be reset when it is not responding to ping, SNMP etc. Resetting can have its own problems, if not done properly. Another common case of neglect is not using an 18V power supply when having long Ethernet cable. How do you avoid such errors and ensure correct installation? Find the answers to your queries and problems by referring the Ideal Installation Guide (http://www.smartbridges.com/pdf/ideal_installation_guide.pdf) available on our website!

For those who have this problem persistently, please drop us a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] so that we can monitor your case closely and offer our assistance in getting to the root of your problem.

“Subnets and DHCP Interface Configuration”

Many users report the problem to not being able to access the wireless device from another subnet. Why does this happen? The reason is that most people tend to overlook a very important configuration, i.e. Primary port (also known as DHCP port). This is an important setting not just for DHCP port but also to determine which interface (Ethernet / Wireless) should be used by device for reaching DHCP sever and Default Gateway. Default Gateway is important when IP Traffic comes from different Subnet since the Response IP Traffic will be sent to it. This Sample Setup applies to all smartBridges devices (ie. airBridge series, airPoint-PRO series and airPoint)
