There is a local company that recently couldn't get a 5 Mile PtP link going. The link is using frequency hopping and the radios are designed for distances greater than 15 miles. They started off with a couple of 24dBi grids. I wasn't worried until I heard they were going to slap some amps up. Turns out they put up some 20 Watt amps at each end and still couldn't get it going. They figured it had to be an alignment issue but they still couldn't figure it out so they put 15dBi omni's at each point in place of the grids. When I found out they had those amps on there still I called them up and carefully explained to them that they are idiots. Convinced them to shut it down and offered my services. Now they have a nice little link using a couple of 19dBi grids and nothing else.

Why does everyone think that more power is better?
