Don't they need to provide a warrant for that information?

Otherwise I could see some idiot getting busted and finding
out that you turned over the critical data that led them to
him and he turns around and sues you. (and wins)

Regardless of the circumstances you still need to cover your
own ass. Don't just think that because the police got what
they wanted and left that it's over.
