Subject: [smartBridges] APPo 250' cat5 & 12v PS

I just thought I would share some weird info. I put up an APPo on a water
tower about 6 months ago. It serviced a PTP link of about 14 miles. Whenever
a storm would come through, it would drop association with the other end. I
would send a reset command using simpleMonitor and it would reassociate.
When we were told to use an 18V PS, I went out and changed it. I would still
have a few times when lightning was real bad when it would drop out. About a
month ago my 18B PS died from a direct strike on the tower. A feared the
worst. All I had on hand was a 12V PS that shipped with the unit. I put that
back on just to test the radio. Everything came back up and worked fine. I
tried to find a new 18V PS but am having a hard time getting one localy and
then forgot about it. I have just realized that the 12V PS has been on it
now through 8 VERY bad storms with lots of lightning and the unit has never
once gone down. I am still using 1.4j.6 on this unit. I am almost afraid to
do anything to it or risk jinxing my good luck. It is kind of like my old
truck, I am afraid that if I wash all of the dirt off, I won't have a truck
left :-)
