I'm using one API in a box on a 15 DBi omni as 1/2 of a repeater. The other side is a D-Link DWL-900AP to a 21 DBi Grid pointed at the main APPO AP 3-1/2 mi link. The only thing I don't like is no RSSI and LQ in SimpleNMS on the API clients. Other than that I agree the savings over an APPO is justified.

I'm not sure where you buy them, but at Ecomm, the aP is $179 and the aPPO
is $330. A difference of $151. That difference pays for an Omni, NEMA box,
lightning arrestor and two pigtails.
